The Committee on the Judiciary moved to amend the bill on page 1, line 6, immediately following the word “Senate” by inserting a comma, and the following additional language:

“And providing that no such call should be made on the behalf of the state of West Virginia until after the State of West Virginia has adopted and imposed a limit on the number of terms that a person may be elected as a member of the Senate and House of Delegates in the West Virginia Legislature.”

AND,

On page 1, line 7, immediately following the words “Whereas” by striking out the words “The Legislature of West Virginia hereby makes” and inserting in lieu thereof the words “Certain members of the West Virginia Legislature have expressed the desire to make” 

AND,

On page 1, line 13, at the beginning of that paragraph, by inserting another paragraph as follows:

“Whereas it would be inconsistent and contradictory for the West Virginia Legislature to make such a call and request on a national level if it has refused or failed to impose similar terms limits on the holders of a comparable public office on a state level; and”

AND,

On page 2, line 6, immediately following the word “to” to insert the following words: “not place any weight on this State’s or any other state’s’”

AND,

On page 2, line 11, immediately following the word “Senate”, by inserting a comma and the following words: “unless and until the state has imposed similar term limits on members of its own state’s legislature”
